JB MDL offers an abundance of fishing opportunities on every side of the base.
Access to each specific body of water depends on your base access and eligibility.
A NJ fishing license and a JB MDL Fishing permit is required to fish lakes/ponds on JB MDL.
You may only fish designated lakes/ponds, these are listed in the JB MDL Hunting and Fishing Instruction.

Trout Stocking
The Natural Resources department conducts spring and fall trout stocking of rainbow and brown and/or brook, and tiger trout in select bodies of water depending on water conditions each year.
A select number of trophy-sized trout, greater than 21", are stocked in some locations. This provides anglers of all ages the opportunity to catch a once in a lifetime fish.
To futher the excitement, each trophy fish has a numbered lip tag that can be submitted to Natural Resources personnel.
Anglers who catch one of these trophy fish will be entered for a change to win a FREE fishing permit for the following season. To be eligible for the raffle you must:
- Provide your name and fish harvest date & time
- Keep the tag
- Have a valid iSportsman account
- Have checked-in and out of iSportsman
- All tag numbers, information, and pictures must be sent to andrew.clapper.2@us.af.mil in order to be entered into the raffle.
All trout stocked lakes are closed from spring stocking days until the opening day of NJ trout season.
Laurel Pond within Cantonment is strictly for children under the age of 16 and handicapped anglers. Laural Pond is handicapped accessible and is also a trout stocked body of water.
